The Bernina Express line forms part of the Rhaetian Railway network, which crosses the Alps. It runs from 60 kilometres from Tirano to St Moritz. The Albula line then continues from St Moritz to Thusis. These two lines together have been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, especially since they were built more than a century ago. The amazing railway climbs 1800 metres as it threads its way through the Alps. It passes through a rugged mountain area, reaching incredible heights and tackling extreme gradients.
