Culture

Tirano, on the border with Switzerland, is a “slow living” city that aims to return to a higher quality lifestyle, and the terminus of the famous Bernina Express UNESCO heritage train line. It welcomes visitors with its magnificent Basilica, built after an apparition of the Madonna in 1504. The town centre contains fine aristocratic palazzos such as Palazzo Salis, with its lovely Italian garden, or Palazzo d'Oro Lambertenghi, and visitors can also explore the remains of the old town walls built by the Sforza ruling family, where an atmosphere of quiet reigns. From town gate to town gate, beneath the 15th C walls, you will walk in the company of Ludovico Sforza and Leonardo da Vinci: art and culture, the soul of Tirano!
